BZZZZT--
[And Cecil's foot steps off of the device! It's been dropped and abandoned in a small field, far far from Discedo. And the late night sky is dark but clear, both moons shining brightly. A yellow-orange light trickles past Cecil's head, and his arms reach out for it. And soon, trapped in the darkness.
He opens his hands. There's no light.] Nng... Rika. This one died too.
"...Cecil. Here, I'll show you how to do it. Satoko and I used to play with the fireflies around the shrine."
[And as Rika's small form steps into view, she also... steps on the communicator and shuts off the transmission.]

Date: 2010-08-10 03:30 am (UTC)[She goes after another firefly and stretches out her hands. She holds one hand underneath it and very carefully cups her other hand over the top of it.]
Cup your hands like this.

Date: 2010-08-10 04:03 am (UTC)[He takes a step forward and watches her before copying her hand position. It made sense; why hadn't he thought of that? Cecil actually felt a little foolish.]
I see...

Date: 2010-08-10 04:13 am (UTC)[She peeks at the firefly through her cupped hands, smiling softly. It's been a long time since she did something like this. Small things made her really happy...]
You have to release them after a few minutes. They cannot survive if they stay captive like this.

Date: 2010-08-10 04:19 am (UTC)[He leans over and looks at the one in her hand, then back at her.] Why does it matter if they die? They're insects.
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-10 04:45 am (UTC)[She quietly observes the firefly for a minute before opening her hands, allowing it to fly off.]
They are only given one life, Cecil...
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-10 04:54 am (UTC)Instead, he takes a step forward and catches one on his own. He brings it back to her; it's behind held a little tightly, where his hand is crushing against its wing, but it's still alive and glowing.]
...like that?

Date: 2010-08-10 04:25 pm (UTC)[Though he has nothing to say to that, she continues on.
She leans over to peek into his hands, noticing the fly isn't flitting much because of its wing. Placing her hands lightly over his, she tries to gently pry his hands... just a little to loosen his grip.]
You almost got it. Be careful.

Date: 2010-08-11 06:21 am (UTC)[He was still half tempted to kill it. But he lets her shift his hands, and he can feel the bug moving around in his hands. He brings it closer to his face and peers in.]
It doesn't look damaged...

Date: 2010-08-11 05:10 pm (UTC)[She pulls her hands away, dropping them to her side. She continues to watch him.]
Open your hands. Can it still fly?
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-12 05:36 am (UTC)[He opens his hands. The bug stumbles and takes off.]
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-12 12:45 pm (UTC)...is this your first time to catch fireflies like this, Cecil? Next time, we should get a net for you.
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-14 01:51 am (UTC)[He nods... and quirks an eyebrow. A net?] What for? Is it more effective to catch them in a net?
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-14 02:20 am (UTC)[She shrugs her shoulders.] ...But you are a little rough with them when you try to catch them with your hands.
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-14 02:23 am (UTC)[Pouting again. He just steps forward and tries to catch another to prove her wrong.]
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-14 02:50 am (UTC)Mm? You've never done this in any of your lives before?
(no subject)
Date: 2010-08-14 02:56 am (UTC)[Every life was different, after all. He holds his hands up, slowly following one until he could capture it. Once caught, he brought it over.]

Date: 2010-08-14 03:45 am (UTC)[She makes one little hop and skip to stand closer next to him, just to peek at his hands. How did he do this time?]
